I'm pretty horrible at constant updates, so it's been awhile since anything's been posted.
I tried to fix that today.
It's been about two weeks now since I got hit by a car on my way to a seven o' clock meeting at my job, pretty much t-boned, and turned the front wheel into a mobius strip. I came out fine, just cut and bruised. Got my glasses broken, too. I just ordered my new wheel this morning and I can't wait to put it up so I can get back out riding the way I used to. My Subrosa is fine for rambling around the streets here, but I can't go more than 5 miles without it turning into an exercise in aggravation. Looking around, I've been thinking how nice a new frame would be, but as of now it looks like I'll have to wait another year or so until my POS car is paid off and I can turn my attention to just buying bike parts like mad.

I managed to get the Masi out for a nice 24 mile ride on thursday, found a BOMB ass cupcake bakery, and a tea shop. Rode my heart out yesterday but it was probably no more than 10 miles. Give or take. In other news the asshole that stole my HD camera was thwarted when I won an auction for the same exact camera, but $170 dollars cheaper. Natch! So the cam is on the way, and expect some more videos of me actually doing things. You know, like killing it, or eating sandwiches in a gnarly fashion. That kind of thing.

Both pretty sick, the Thrasher and the Dropout are dope frames, I see a lot of folks ditching the pivotal seat setup, I don't know, I plan on keeping mine pivotal until my ass bleeds and I learn my lesson. I'm more interested in fixing the slip I get on my crankarms, possibly from the outboard BB setup? Anyone know how/why that keeps happening I checked everything. Twice. I think in the future you're going to see a spline drive, I just can't afford it now. Going to Portland, Or very soon. Well, it's a nice-ass day outside, I already woke up early to practice, gonna go tear it up again later.

Guy's a ripper for shizz. Some slick riding there, I loved the quick 180 stall on the planter off the 3 set somewhere near the 2:00 min mark. In the meantime spring has been slow to get it's lazy pastel colored ass to the midwest so it's currently freezing, with like 50mph winds. Last weekend we even had snow... So I'm spending time checking out spots, getting colds, working, etc. I'm just waiting for the next GRIME edit. Be sure to check the online store because shit just opened up.

Some gear I spotted @ Prolly's blog featuring my two all time favorite clothing designers of the day. Rebel 8 and Mishka! Really diggin' the New Era cap, I'd like to see some more from these two in the future, maybe not SO uh... Harley Davidson oriented. I like the twist though. Great stuff.

Now that I've opened with some sweet news, I have to get into the bad news... Only 3 days and 2 samples into owning my mini HD cam does some ASSHOLE STEAL IT. So all my plans for making some edits went down the drain, along with 200 dollars. I'm now the owner of a fabulous USB charger and a big long list of paper that made up the 2 year warranty I bought for it. Son of a fucking bitch. I just got my BLAQ Designs FRS in the mail and slapped em on last night. Looking super tight (in a good way) with the purple/gunmetal accents. Of course it just snowed about 4 more inches yesterday night so I might go try and find a nice dry parking garage. If anyone knows a good place to throw down sans wetness hit me up via email. In other news, ADIDAS broke out on SneakerFreaker with some "fixie" specific shoes, and while I really hate the term "fixie" like, REALLY dislike it, the shoes themselves look quite dope, slimmed down for proper feel and in two really nice colorways.

I'm diggin' the whole workwear tough trending but when you work downtown at a design firm, it's not exactly a fucking railroad. Anyhow, fashion is fashion, and we all look like morons anyway you slice it. That's popular culture. Pushing things forwards inevitably leads you back. Meanwhile I was away in Michigan on a 2 day bike trip around the coast, riding, eating, and drinking. I'll post some of the travel pics later on, as I felt that I just had to rant.

Seeing pictures like this make me wonder what drives people to perform tricks like above and others. Not that it's bad, evolution is nice, and even if it's in an obtuse direction. Despite what others may say I think it's a nice step up.
What haven't we tried making Xtreme yet? If it can happen to Doritos it can happen to cycling. Well, technically it's already happened to cycling. Been going on for awhile. Anyhow, when you take a look at people who are stoaked on it like D.A.R.T. rider John "Prolly" he makes a fairly compelling argument in his actions alone that this is a viable, and ridiculously enjoyable sport. It's the Big Boys version of BMX. Faster, sleeker, considerable larger, but so graceful. A fixed gear bike is genuinely a highly responsive machine considering it's histoic past. But youthful innovation. It's wonderful. It seems new products are arriving on the market every other week, and each one better and more durable than the last. Also, at a time like this, even if it's just fucking around on a bike for fun, you eventually respect it as a means of transportation, and the love grows from there.

For me, I don't think it matters what "culture" that you subscribe to, as long as you ride, and you ride well and treat others with respect, it doesn't matter. I don't necessarily consider myself to be a Hipster, for one, I hate cocaine, and indie bands? Suck my dick. I listen to hip hop son. Well, okay, considering there is so called "Hipsterhop" type people, whatever the plural is of that, I still wouldn't say I could come close, although I enjoy the aesthetic of streetwear designs and I follow certain brands, but I can't afford that, and why bother? I'm too busy enjoying my bike than believing the gear can make the man. It's experience. Don't get riled up though, it's not like I'm busting tricks off five sets either. I'm just riding. I enjoy it. I like going fast when I can. But I don't act like an asshole or a child either. Challenges are challenges. Riding every day if I can, doesn't matter if its just the 7-11 or a thirty mile trek to the river. Point is, I do it, and I don't try to make it a point to show off, I just do what I do, and thats it.

So why hate? What's the point? Satisfaction from some notion of Schadenfruede when they bite it? I'll admit, sometimes, naturally humorous, but look at the long forum of hate it started. What the fuck!? It's mind boggling. Anyhow, now that I've blathered on enough about whatever it was I started about in the first place. Let's thank all those who participated, and now if you'll excuse me, I have to eat the shit out of some peach mini muffins.

From what Prolly is saying, these are the shit! As a rider whose setup cannot tolerate toe clips and therefore straps, I could really get on a pair of these. They're really more for fixed freestyle riding but my frame is bent just so much that I can't operate with regular clips, these would help a lot! I do miss my straps....

I was contemplating the possibility of a belt drive in lieu of a chain on a fixed gear bike just the other day so it's fitting that fate shoves this series of images in my face.

A nice relaxed saturday ride through some towns

We hit the road cutting through town because the local trail is a bit soggy from a monster storm and suffice it to say, riding on the road is so much more fun.

And we managed to make it to our destination for an ice cold drink at our favorite cafe, the iced green tea smoothie was bitchin', but I fear that all the iced green teas in the world aren't going to cool us down come monday... first 90 degree day of the year for Illinois.......
